Sigourney Weaver has said on numerous occasions she wants to do Alien 5 so if the film goes into production, Weaver is bound to be involved in some shape or form. In April 2002, Stellan Skarsgerd was also rumoured to have signed a contract to appear in Alien 5. Winona Ryder was another person rumoured to have signed onto do the next instalment in the Alien franchise.

The Director

Ridley Scott seems to be the most popular choice as far as news reports go but James Cameron has also been talking to Sigourney Weaver. Cameron was quoted in July 2003 by saying: "We're looking at doing [Alien 5]. Something similar to what we did with Aliens. A bunch of great characters, and of course Sigourney.

Storyline

The Zap2It website reported rumoured plots for Alien 5 and 6:

Extract: "Number five is set on Earth, with the planet under attack from alien warrior drop ships, which made their debut in the original "Alien" movie. In the process they make Earth look like an incubator while attacking, leaving alien eggs around the humans. That's when Ripley realizes her dreams have played a role in what's happening and she evacuates and confines herself to a cell, but inevitably she will meet her nemesis face to face again."

"Number six takes place on the home turf of the navigator of the ship. Aliens are taking over other plants and Ripley finds herself forced to turn to the dark side in order to save civilization."

The plot for the fifth film is still up in the air considering Sigourney Weaver has already said:

Extract: "I'm not interested in returning back to Earth. I think it's more fun to go to a foreign planet... Who wants to come to Earth now? Let's go far, far away! Fantasy is what we need.

Ridley Scott's Ideal Alien 5 Storyline
Here's a quote from Ridley Scott in February 2002 about his ideal plot for Alien 5:
Extract:
"I say we should go back to where the alien creatures were first found and explain how they were created. No one has ever explained why. I always figured that a battleship carrying bio-mechanical organisms that could be weapons was sent into space with some space jockey who didn't last long."

The Space Jockey's Homeworld?
